Family and Community Life Commission

This commission of the Parish Council provides time for fun and hospitality including seasonal special events, pancake breakfasts, coffee hours and other activities to create a sense of belonging and family within the parish.

       Mardi Gras Celebration

Just before Lent the Family and Community Life Commission hosts a dinner to celebrate Mardi Gras: Food, Fun and Fellowship.

       Irish Night

In the spring, after Lent, we celebrate our Irish-American heritage with dinner and music and fun. It is preceded by a "Famine Mass" to remember the Great Irish Famine that brought so many immigrants to Springfield. 

Spiritual Life Commission

This commission of the Parish Council is involved in all things liturgical including the Environment Committee (decorating), devotions, assisting at special liturgical events and enhancing Sunday liturgies. Chairperson, Susan Lavoie.

Environment Committee

Decorates the church for special liturgies. See Sr. Eileen Sullivan

Evangelization Committee

To develop and highlight evangelization efforts in the parish to include parishioners, friends and guests, then reaching out to the wider community. See Sr. Eileen

Black Catholic Apostolate

This diocesan ministry is headed by parishioner Marion Johnson. Since Holy Family Parish, Springfield, merged with  St. Michael's, parishioners can share in this ministry. Examples of ministry are the student backpack project, contributing to children in parochial schools and evangelization. Knights of St. Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary

This is a Catholic Lay organization under the guidance of St. Peter Claver, who was the “apostolate of presence to slaves” showing they were human beings. The Knights aspire to true manhood and the Ladies to Christian Womanhood by promoting friendship, unity and charity through Catholic action. The Knights and Ladies are involved in community service within the Church. This is a diocesan ministry.

Coffee Hours

Join us between the 8:30am Mass and the start of the 10am Mass on Sundays in the Bishop Marshall Center. Volunteers provide coffee, juice and donuts. This is a fine time to socialize and meet members of the parish.

Annual Pig Roast

This great tradition from the merged Holy Family Parish was brought to St. Michael's by the Black Catholic Apostolate and the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver so that all parishioners and friends could share foods created by members along with pork. It is another way that helps bring us together as a diverse parish family.

Rosary Recitation

The Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver recite the Rosary after the 8:30 Mass on the first Sunday of the month year round in the Holy Spirit Chapel. All are welcome.

     Chaplet of Divine Mercy

Prayed after the 12:10 pm daily Mass, Monday-Friday in the Holy Spirit Chapel.

     Rosary Weekdays

 Prayed before the 12:10 pm daily Mass, Monday-Friday in the Holy Spirit Chapel.

     Vigil for the Unborn

Prayed from 10:00am-12noon every second Thursday of the month concluding with Mass at 12:10pm. The Vigil includes the recitation of the Rosary and Expostion of the Blessed Sacrament.

     40 Hours Devotion

This devotion includes Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Adoration twice a year, once during Advent and Lent. Times to be announced.

Latino Prayer Groups

      Legion of Mary

“Morning Star”: If you are interested in seeking union with Mary through imitation of her, this group uses the writings of St. Louis Marie de Montfort as a guide. This group meets Wednesdays 5-6:30 pm in the Bishop Marshall Center. Leader: Magdalena Pagan 413-218-7371.

      St. John the XXIII Prayer Group

This Latino prayer group meets Wednesdays 7-9 pm Holy Spirit Chapel. Leader: Carlos D. Marrero 413-364-8304.

      Charismatic Renewal

Catholic Charismatic Renewal "United in Christ" is a spiritual movement within the Catholic Church that emphasizes the availability of the power and many gifts of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer and the need for a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ in order to live life to the fullest.  United in Christ meets Tuesdays 7-9 pm in the Holy Spirit Chapel. Leader: Carmen Lugo 413-204-0215.

     Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Tuesdays 6-7 pm in the Holy Spirit Chapel. 

      Chalice Pilgim

One family takes the Chalice home and prays for vocations for one week. Leader: Caliz Peregrino.

      Pilgrim Virgin of Guadalupe

This offers an opportunity to take the Pilgrim image home and pray in front of it during the week and bring it back the next Sunday for the 11:45am Mass. Leader: Dorinda Poitier.

      Radio Catolica Springfield 102.5

Dolly Garzon "Rayitos de Luz" Tuesdays 10-11am. Legion on Mary prays the Rosary.

Bible Study

Bible study meets Thursdays at 7:00pm in the rectory September-June. Contact Edwin King 796-1197.

First Friday

On the first Friday of the month from September-June, a 7:30am Mass is celebrated in the Holy Spirit Chapel that is followed by a speaker and continental breakfast in the Fr. Huller Meeting Room.
